With the Facebook status updates this morning around 12:05 a.m. (Central Time), I could help but laugh when I noticed my friends posting “Come on Facebook, what’s with the change? If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” This is a constant complaint of Facebookies going back even as far as when they switched from MySpace asking “Why can’t Facebook be more like MySpace?” Well Facebookies, if it was the same as MySpace, you wouldn’t have switched and if it was the same as it was when it first entered our lives in February 2004, you would be bored.
Now Let’s Get To The Updates!
This morning, September 21, 2011, Facebook launched another one of the many updates that are to take place over the next few months. If you remember as far back as last week, Facebook announced the improvement to the Friends Lists and the new Subscribe button which helped you see more of what you cared about most, and less of what you don’t. Last nights updates are part of last weeks updates which allow you to log on to Facebook and
immediately see (or should see) things that you’re most interested in, like status updates from your family and closest friends.
What if you haven’t logged on to Facebook in a week or two? Facebook has thought of that as well, this is where the Top Stories should help you catch up and if you visit often, Recent News might come in more handy.
As as Facebook engineering manager, Mark Tonkelowitz stated, “Starting today, it will be easier to keep yp with the people in your life no matter how frequently or infrequently you’re on Facebook.”
Everything hasn’t changed, it’s just been modified, think of it as your own personal newspaper. The front page (or top of your news feed) shows the most interesting stories and you will not be worrying about missing the important things happening in your family or friends lives. Facebook will automatically notice if you haven’t visited the site in a while and when you log in after the Facebook break, the first things you’ll see are the top photos and statuses posted while you were away, pretty cool huh? The stories will be marked with a blue corner.

The Ticker: Friends in Real Time!
News Feeds do have lag time. When you are on Facebook, many of your friends are too. Until this update, there wasn’t an easy way to see and chat with your friends about photos, hot topics, and any other things they are posting in real time. The new ticker helps you do just that.
The Ticker (found in the top right) shows you the same posts and updates you are used to seeing on Facebook, but brings it more interactive by displaying updates instantaneously. With this update, when your friend comments, asks questions or shares something like a local Check-in, you will be able to join the conversation immediately. Clicking on any of the ticker items (we are calling them ticks) and you will see the full story and be able to reply without losing your place.
If you have a larger screen and would like to see more ticks, you can maximize or minimize the amount of ticks shown in the Ticker. The current settiings are not final, just like every other Facebook feature, you can control who can see your updates anywhere on Facebook including in the Ticker and News Feed, just adjust your sharing control or apps setting.
All of these amazing Facebook updates and the F8 convention hasn’t even started yet. Stay posted to MABIAA for more updates as the happen.
